The boy had the knife in his backpack in a classroom of Potomac High School in Woodbridge on May 2, county police said.
School personnel seized the knife and contacted the police, who determined the knife was not displayed or part of any other active threat to other students, faculty, or staff.
The boy was initially released to a family member. On May 17, following the investigation, the accused, identified a 15-year-old male juvenile, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds.
